Herbal House Apartments

Clerkenwell, London

The recently refurbished 1920's Art Decco Daily Mail printworks building located in Clerkenwell, London is now occupied by commercial businesses and was renamed 'Herbal House'. A rooftop installation to the west side of the building was added during the earlier phases of the main building refurbishment in preparation of the internal apartment fit out under a separate contract.

D5 Architects were appointed as lead designer working through RIBA work stages 1 to 4 for the delivery of the interior apartment layouts and interior design alongside Suzanne Barnes Design Partnership Ltd. We were then novated to the design and build contractor for the construction phase of the contract.

The 6no. single aspect duplex apartments are predominantly two bed with open plan kitchen and living spaces. A glazed screen located between the entrance hall and the living space allows light to penetrate deep into the accommodation and offers internal views through the whole of the lower level living space. They are designed to Life Time Homes standards and will initially be offered to rent. The interior design creates a contemporary take on Art Decco / New York loft style living with each apartment accessing terrace areas from both the lower living rooms and the upper bed rooms affording views across the rooftops of London.

Construction work is progressing onsite, with completion due early 2019.
