D5 were commissioned by a private client to design a contemporary country house set within the Warwickshire green belt. The project involves the redevelopment of an existing farmstead, with removal of ad-hoc shed structures and renovation and retention of original threshing barn, stables and milking parlour. The new house’s form was inspired by the gently rolling topography of the site, which lead to a sinuous, undulating composite timber grid-shell structure, floating over glass walls beneath. The house includes a number of sustainable techniques including a newly formed lake, which manages rainwater discharge off the property, combined with newly formed reed beds to filter waste water. The house is also heated in winter and cooled in summer through ground source heat pump technology.

Planning Approval was granted under the discriminating planning policy PPS7 (Paragraph 55) of the National Planning Policy Framework, making Danzy Farm House only the 15th house in the country to receive such approval.
