Coventry University : CAWR Labs

Ryton Campus, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry

Creation of new & upgraded lab spaces within the CAWR (Centre for Agroecology and Water Resilience)

The high level brief for the project is the creation of new & upgraded lab spaces within the CAWR (Centre for Agroecology and Water Resilience) – an existing Coventry University research & office building. In addition, the brief also includes a requirement to undertake a space planning study of the existing CAWR open plan office space to established if occupancy can be reasonably increased or the space functionally improved.

The CAWR building is located on the CU Ryton Campus. This campus is located to the South East of the city centre and over multiple buildings and is occupied by different departments from within Coventry University and also external tenants. It is a timber frame building built in early 2000s for the previous site owner Garden Organic. The project incorporates sample prep space, inorganic analysis lab, refurbished wash up facility, new Microscopy lab and all associated office and ancillary spaces.

The building is primarily used by the CAWR who have both office space and lab space within it, however part of the buildings that were previously tenanted by Warwickshire Young Carers and a Gym are now being converted into offices for the CU Strategic Planning and Analytics Office. This is part of a larger piece of work on the site to also convert the Redland Building into offices for CURA and the Reception Building into offices for MEA.
