The project is part of a wider development programme with the re-introduction of the Borders Railway by the Scottish Borders Council.

The new bus station and concourse, provides improved facilities for bus and rail passengers, whilst also providing business space for small to medium sized enterprises. The interchange project forms the main gateway to the Scottish Borders and creates a positive lasting impression on all the people arriving or departing from the Borders.
