Milton Keynes Coachway
Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
The project is part of Milton Keynes Council's wider 'Gateway' infrastructural improvements to Junction 14 of the M1, including a new Park and Ride facility.
One of the main driving principles informing the buildings design is the use of the Milton Keynes infrastructural grid system. The grid is set at a 35º angle to North and has been used to strike a datum line for the central spine of the building. This spine connects the buildings two main entrances and is highlighted by a glazed roof light running the length of the building. The roof light then continues externally through the canopy covering the coach bays.
The scale of the building is designed to generate a sense of arrival for all passengers traveling to Milton Keynes by embracing arrival and departure with a customer centric design.
