Deaf Cultural Centre

Ladywood, Birmingham

The Deaf Cultural Centre is unique in the UK with its provision of services specific for the deaf community. Designed with sign as the first language, the building is conceived as a bold outward statement.

Designed to enhance the streetscape and bring the deaf community into a more prominent position, the building houses public functions throughout the ground floor with support and community services over. The new Deaf Cultural Centre building is formed as a series of linked spaces with a high degree of flexibility and daylight. Users experience an intuitive journey through the building with long internal vista’s with an open and relaxed atmosphere particularly tailored for the deaf user.

Throughout all stages of the project D5 demonstrated creativity, commitment and enthusiasm.

Our brief was for a bold, intelligent architectural design; D5 not only met but also exceeded our expectations. Great care was taken throughout the design phase with every detail considered and taking great care to involve us throughout. Our project benefitted enormously from D5’s friendly, proactive and attentive approach making their service real value for money.

Years after opening of the building, we continue to receive unsolicited comments about the quality of the building and the effective working and social environment it provides.
