Isobel RIBA Part 2 Success

Many congratulations to D5'er Isobel Barrett for successfully completing her RIBA Part 2 Masters in Architecture studies at Birmingham City University and particular recognition of her excellent thesis project.

Isobel's thesis project explored architecture as a radical response to the climate crisis. The project proposes a human cryogenic centre; a space designed around ideas of preservation, slowing down and ecological responsibility. It rethinks architecture not as something that serves only humans, but as part of a much wider system of relationships between species and environments. Taking inspiration from bat hibernation, where energy levels drop in response to ecological scarcity, the project proposes a shift towards intentional slowing down. To allow our planet to heal from the constant growth and acceleration and reduce consumption in response to ecological stress.

Isobel received a Distinction for the project and won the Birmingham Architectural Associations ‘MArch Sustainability Award.'
