RIBA Competition Win : St Saviour's Mews
We were delighted to hear last week that D5 Architects submission to the RIBA West Midlands Housing Design Competition won the Practice Category, with our proposal for St Saviours Church Mews.
The project brief was prepared by the Church Development Agency (CDA), based on their Coming Home initiative which works to develop affordable community focused social housing and create supportive, sustainable local communities. Our proposal developed the idea of a contemporary “community cloister,” creating homes focused on the Coming Home reports five values of being sustainable, safe, stable, sociable and satisfying.
The proposal includes a mix of 1-bed, 2-bed duplex’s and 3-bed town houses, integrating views of the church building into the heart of the massing proposal, with a double-ellipse design that balances modern living with a sensitive response to the historic setting.
