Edmonton Green Rail Station

Edmonton, London Borough of Enfield

As part of the Network Rail 'AfA' initiative to deliver 'Access for All' facilities across the rail network, this particular development required the introduction of two new lift shafts rising 6 metres from pavement to existing platform level via high level walkways on a restricted corner site.

Phasing of the works was necessary to ensure public access to platforms was retained throughout the period of works on site. The site is located in a conservation area demanding a sensitive and creative design solution and necessitated close liaison with both Network Rail and Enfield Planning and Regeneration Departments. Through public consultation we were able to deliver a unique and striking solution with the use of black and green glazed brickwork allowing the lift towers to clearly identify the station at a busy traffic intersection. Design work for towers preceded the bright orange signage which has followed since completion of the project.

We were then novated to work for the contractor: J Murphy & Sons Ltd Who complied with Network Rail requirements.  On completion the station was handed over to East Anglian Railways to operate – they are now called Abellio Greater Anglia.
